How to do a Quality Check Workshop

Summary:
Quality Checking is about making sure that people with learning disabilities get good support. It is about people with learning disabilities having the chance to say what they think about their support. It is about people with learning disabilities taking a lead on checking support.
This two day event is ideal for people with disability, their supporters and family members. It is an opportunity for people with disability to come with their supporters to learn about quality support and how to check that it is happening. This is a chance to prepare for making sure that your package or that of the person you support is Quality Checked with the outcomes you want.
What this workshop will cover:
- What is quality?
- What makes good quality support?
- Using the REACH Standards to check quality.
- How to spot if support is up to standard
- Doing a Quality Check
Timing:
On both days we will start by having coffee, tea and biscuits at 10:30am and we will end each day by 3.30pm
Cost:
The two day workshop is $150; for people who are not salaried it is $25.
Morning and afternoon teas will be served and lunch can be either brought to venue or bought at surrounding cafes.
Facilitator:
Thomas Doukas.
Dr. Thomas Doukas is as team leader at Choice Support, London, UK, where he works with people with intellectual disability to check the quality of the support they receive within services as well as within their own individual funding packages. Choice Support in the UK is funded by government to involve people with disability in ongoing evaluation of services, including monitoring of quality within individualised packages.
