About the Project

CDS was tasked with creating a tailored training package for staff from the Sydney Opera House as part of their Workplace Readiness Project to support new employees with intellectual disability.

We developed an Inclusion Framework that gave SoH staff the tools to aid reflection on their own inclusive practices in the workplace and provice strategies for fostering inclusion of staff members with intellectual disability.

As part of the project, we designed and facilitated a tailored mentorship program to select staff which included the delivery of several interactive workshops.

Testimonial

We were lucky to receive great feedback from the SoH team:

We recently engaged CDS to facilitate and develop a tailored training package and series of easy English resources for a staff mentorship program we established, to support new employees with intellectual disabilities transition into open employment roles at the Opera House. A CDS trainer/ psychologist also provided follow up online sessions with each social mentor, over the period of the program, helping them to reflect on progress in their new mentor role.

CDS were instrumental in the success of the staff mentor program. Their ongoing program advice and full day of interactive training sessions led by a team of CDS trainers with and without lived experience of intellectual disability, offered incredible insights, and set solid foundations for the Mentor Program to flourish.  The CDS team have the live-experience, expertise, knowledge, and skills to address a range of topics related to intellectual disability, support and communication, mentorship roles and possibilities, social goal setting, person centred active support principles and supports, personal and professional boundary setting and lots more. CDS were the perfect project partners, and it was an absolute joy to work with all the members of their wonderful team!
