Supporting People with Intellectual Disability & Dementia
October 31, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
$89.00Dementia is being increasingly recognised in people with intellectual disability, particularly people with Down syndrome, who can develop dementia at an earlier age than others in the community. This can be challenging for disability services and disability support professionals (DSPs). In this workshop, participants will learn to recognise the early and later signs of dementia in people with intellectual disability, the health effects and understand the support worker’s role in screening and assessment. Participants will learn practical strategies for how to provide or adjust the supports needed for the person with dementia as the condition progresses.
